Self Sufficiency Strategies for TANF Clients
Work-First Philosophy- Parents of children needing assistance must work to the extent of their ability. We will make efforts to create opportunities for employment.
Independence- We assist families in developing a plan to provide for their families by themselves.
Self Sufficiency- We encourage all participants to move toward personal and community self-sufficiency.
Accept Responsibility- We encourage responsibility by requiring cooperation with efforts to ensure both parents provide support for their children.
Family Stability- We encourage stability through a safe, healthy home environment.
Education- We encourage all participants to complete a high school education or GED. Other education opportunities will be explored when appropriate, so participants can enjoy greater opportunities to obtain work that will produce sufficient income to support their families and contribute to their community.
Case Management
As TANF clients participate in various work activities, the Workforce Development Staff will assist them in the development of a Family Self-Sufficiency Plan (FSSP). The FSSP will define individual activities designed to help the client attain independence, and services T&H and affiliates will provide to support the client's goal of self-sufficiency.
The Workforce Development Staff, in the development of the FSSP, will monitor, coach, encourage and make referrals to service providers appropriate in helping eliminate any barriers to employment. The primary goal of the Workforce Development Staff is to ensure clients enhance their professional skills and abilities in order to find and maintain full time employment, which will lead to Self Sufficiency.
