Business & Economic Development Department of the Central Council is charged with developing and maintaining efforts and programs that promote business and economic development for our tribal constituents and constituent communities that will ultimately result in their self-sufficiency.
Community Services Block Grant
Program Purpose
The Program Provides opportunities to Native American's living in Southeast Alaska for increased financial independence and self-sufficiency through education and technical assistance.
Program Description
In 2007, the BEDD will develop a new set of services aimed at fighting poverty in Southeast Alaska communities. New services will include free tax assistance, tax education, and tax problem resolution; individual development accounts program; and personal financial management outreach. These services will be offered in 2008, at no cost to tribal citizens.
Communities Served
All Southeast Alaska communities.
Eligibility
Requirements
Tribal citizens living in Southeast Alaska (other conditions may apply).
Funding Agency
Department of Health and Community Services, Community Services Block Grant (CSBG).
Economic Development Outreach
Program Purpose
To facilitate economic development in Southeast Alaska while promoting the interests of the Tribe.
Program Description
The program provides assistance to Southeast Alaska communities in development of Comprehensive Economic Development Strategies (CEDS) and community plans through technical assistance, report development, planning and advocacy.
Communities Served
All Southeast Alaska communities.
Eligibility
Requirements
Southeast Alaska communities and local entities involved in economic development.
Funding Agency
Economic Development Administration (EDA), and the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) Compact Economic Development.
Micro-Enterprise Program
Program Purpose
The Goal of the Micro-Enterprise Program is to provide training, technical assistance, and business start up capital for micro-enterprise development projects in Southeast Alaska.
Program Description
BEDD will provide a comprehensive and multi-faceted approach to empower small business development in Southeast Alaska. Specifically, the program will deliver small business training, technical assistance, one-on-one counseling, and micro-grants. Training sessions and one-on-one counseling services will be offered in Hydaburg, Craig and Douglas, Upon completion of training, applicants will be asked to produce workable business plans that demonstrate business viability. Selected projects will receive limited micro-grants.

Eligibility
Requirements
Must be residents of the above-mentioned communities.
Must be tribally enrolled.
Must complete training sessions offered by BEDD in the identified communities.
