Program Description
The College Student Assistance Program (CSA) scholarship is only one of the main functions of the Higher Education department.  Higher education advocacy to grade school, middle school, and high school students and support to students are also core functions of the department.

Goals
To provide the support services necessary to: 
1) assure tribal members receive the post-secondary education to which they aspire; 
2) to increase the number of educational opportunities; to facilitate student career goals; and 
3) encourage all qualified tribal members to seek higher standards of education.

Key Dates

Funding Agency
Higher education funds are received from the U.S. Department of Interior during January of each year.

Alumni Scholarship
The Alumni Scholarship is available for application between the dates of July 1 through September 15. The Alumni Scholarship Assistance Program is based upon fund-raising events held throughout the year, including the Annual Spring King Salmon Derby.

Johnson O'Malley

Program Description
JOM primarily manages the Juneau Supplemental Native Education Program (SNEP), and monitors the three regional programs in Haines, Klawock, and Wrangell. The program serves Native students from three years of age through the twelfth grade. Local programming is determined by an annual community assessment and Native parent committees.

Goals
To seek involvement with National/State Native organizations and legislation affecting budgets and policy in Indian Education. To promote pride in Native heritage, maximize student retention in schools, utilize community resources in advocating for Native issues, promote Native teacher hire, and provide opportunities for Native students to strengthen/develop skills of leadership.

Key Dates
May is the month for program evaluation and community needs assessment. JOM is currently funded on a baseline student count and operates on a fiscal calendar year, January to December.
