Tribal Energy
Program Purpose
Central Council Tlingit & Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska’s (CCTHITA) Tribal Energy (TE) Department is charged with securing affordable and economically beneficial energy to tribes, tribal citizens and Southeast Alaska communities. The department will serve as an advocacy entity to reduce and stabilize the high cost of power for Southeast communities. The TE will also serve as a clearinghouse for information and act on the most beneficial plan for our tribal partners and communities while benefiting the entire region.
Program Description
A range of energy projects, not limited to electricity, are being considered for infrastructure development for regional energy including the consideration of hydroelectric, wind and tidal power facilities. For effective planning, it is important to have a good understanding of all the issues and their long-term and positive implications for our region and people so our communities and their utilities will maximize the benefits from this new paradigm. Interconnecting and power sales agreements will be part of this new paradigm and the TE will work to provide clear information and offer its expertise on these interconnections to Southeast communities, corporations and local utilities.
