Central Council Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska has received a grant to act as Prime Client Service Grantee for Native ATAP recipients residing in the City and Borough of Juneau. Central Council is committed to actively participate in Welfare Reform, especially in the developmental stages to ensure equal access for all Alaskans. CCTHITA Employment and Training programs are designed to meet, alleviate and or remove barriers to employment for Alaska Native/Native Americans in the following areas:

  • Lack of Hands-on training opportunities
  • Financial Constraints inherent in pursuing education and training while raising a family
  • Lack of adequate and culturally appropriate counseling opportunities
  • Loss of security in the absence of village and family support systems
  • Lack of understanding of their particular needs and concerns by prospective employers
  • Social stigmas contributing to employment barriers
  • Lack of requisite personal, work, and job specific skills

It is the goal of Tlingit and Haida to follow a "work first" philosophy and assist all individuals referred for work search to locate and attain paid employment. Workshops and other instruction that Tlingit and Haida will provide will include, but are not limited to:

  • Pre-employment assessment

  • Goal setting

  • Career exploration skills

  • Locating employment-job hunt activities

  • Job interviewing skills ad self-presentation

  • Resume preparation and delivery

  • The application process

  • Maintaining employment

  • Vocational coping training

  • Life skills
