Intro to ArcGIS I Training Course

The NLR departments is now offering ESRI Intro to ArcGIS I classes to interested learners. ESRI is the world leader in GIS software design and its usage and is well renowned in most earth sciences communities.

After completing refresher training, then presenting learning material, and completing an arduous test, the CCTHITA's Natural Resource Specialist, Randy Henry , was authorized by ESRI to instruct introduction level concepts of their version 9.2 ArcGIS software.

The course length is 2 days and students will receive an ESRI sanctioned certificate indicating completion of the course. They will also receive 2 course workbooks and other ESRI promotional items and an evaluation software CD. The course work will consist of information on different ArcGIS components, data types and how to obtain existing data. Students will learn how to load data and how to query and display data thru maps. Information on how to edit data and create custom datasets will also be presented. Other information, such as how tribes can obtain the software for free and how to use online tutorials will be presented as well.

It is our intent to hold classes at the Vocational Training & Resource Center, but we will also be available to travel to communities where there will be enough participants to justify expenses.

GIS is fast becoming integrated into many facets of daily life. It is instrumental in building community infrastructures and used extensively for natural resource management. As technological advances evolve, so does the need to utilize them. GIS is a tool that environmentally concerned organizations cannot be as effective without so we here at the CCTHITA would like to encourage people who work with spatial information to consider taking this class.

We anticipate holding as many classes as possible so at this time we will tentatively hold a session once a month on or near the 15 th of each month. We do so as to generate interest and be able to organize classes with the greatest number of students to make it economical to everyone involved.

The course price is $850 per student for the 2 day course. We will also assist in developing working GIS databases as a contracting service for $1,000 per day
