EXECUTIVE COUNCIL ELECTS 6TH VICE PRESIDENT
Central Council Tlingit & Haida Indian Tribes
of Alaska (CCTHITA) is pleased to announce that our Executive Council
has elected Michele Metz as the new 6th Vice President. Her term
will run through April 2006; upon which time, all Executive Council
seats will be open for elections.
Metz was officially sworn in to office during the
CCTHITA Executive Council meeting held Monday, October 24th in Juneau,
Alaska.
Metz is the Assistant Lands Manager with the Sealaska Corporation
in Juneau, Alaska. Prior to joining the Sealaska team, she was the
Assistant to the President at CCTHITA. From 1995 to 1998, she worked
in the CCTHITA Native Lands and Resources Department, focusing on
repatriation and other cultural issues. Previous to this, she worked
for over a decade for the State of Alaska.
Metz, whose Tlingit name is Saa yaas oo, is Chookeneidi (Eagle/Porpoise)
and is a CCTHITA tribal citizen, a Huna Totem Corporation shareholder,
and a Sealaska Corporation shareholder descendent. She was raised
in Juneau and holds a bachelor's degree in anthropology, Alaska
Native Studies, from the University of Alaska, Southeast.
In addition to serving as the 6th Vice President on the CCTHITA
Executive Council, she also serves as a CCTHITA Delegate, as an
Executive Council Member and Council Member on the Tlingit and Haida
Indians of the City & Borough of Juneau, and as a Member of
the Alaska Native Sisterhood Camp #2.
