Business & Economic Development

The Business & Economic Development Department is charged with developing and maintaining efforts and programs that promote business and economic development for our tribal constituents and constituent communities that will ultimately result in their self-sufficiency.

Business Development

The Business Development Program provides opportunities to Native American's living in Southeast Alaska for increased financial independence and self-sufficiency through education and technical assistance.

Business Centers have been developed to deliver business training, technical assistance, and free internet access to remote communities in Alaska with the goal of promoting the development of small and medium enterprises and creating jobs. Business centers are located in Angoon and Hydaburg.

These centers are equipped with computer labs and on-site staff to deliver at least two training sessions per month on various business topics; and, one-on-one counseling on business start-ups and related issues.

Economic Development

The Economic Development Program facilitates economic development in Southeast Alaska while promoting the interests of the Tribe.

The program also provides assistance to Southeast Alaska communities in development of Comprehensive Economic Development Strategies (CEDS) and community plans through technical assistance, report development, planning and advocacy.

Southeast Economic Development Summit

Central Council of the Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska and Sealaska Corporation were proud to co-sponsor the Southeast Economic Development Summit (SEDS) that was held May 12-13, 2011 in Juneau, Alaska. The event focused on economic development solutions for communities in Southeast Alaska and included topics on out-migration solutions, business innovations, community empowerment, federal and state funding opportunities, and much more. For information on this event, please contact the Business & Economic Development Department.
