Native American Graves Protection & Repatriation Act

The Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) was signed into law on November 16, 1990 to provide for the protection of Native American graves and artifacts.

The program’s purpose is to implement the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act.

A Few Successes:

  • 45 Shaman Objects from the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago safely returned to Yakutat, Hoonah and CCTHITA

  • Shaman Object returned from the Minnesota Art Museum

  • Chilkat Blanket returned from the American Museum of Natural History
